RREUSE was invited to New York to present the network at the 10th Annual Conference of ReuseNYC entitled “Reuse: Local Responses to Global Challenges”

Reuse NYC is a membership network that works to encourage the donation and reuse of products and materials in New York City by providing FREE support services to local non-profit "reuse" organizations.

One of the main purposes of the conference was to highlight the crucial role of local non-profit reuse actors in the face of emergency and recovery efforts, namely Hurricane Sandy. One of the most important lessons that was gained during the discussion was how to manage donations responsibly and the need for cooperation and coordination.

Michal Len presented the RREUSE network highlighting in particular the socio-economic and environmental benefits of the sector in Europe. It is hoped that this meeting will be a first step at bringing together transatlantic cooperation for the networks, in particular over areas such as ways of measuring the social and environmental value of the sector. In particular, the New York City Center for Materials Reuse  is researching the environmental, economic, and social impact of product reuse in New York City through its Data Management Project (DMP).

It also shows that networks of social enterprises active in reuse and repair are a truly global phenomenon.
